Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir, at the Egypt 2026 Forum, announced plans to expand Egypt's ports to 19 total, adding new terminals in the south.
- El-Wazir said Egypt now has about 100 kilometers of modern docks reaching depths up to 25 meters, able to receive the largest vessels.
- He said the system previously had only 14 ports that could not accommodate ships drawing more than eight meters.
- El-Wazir said the upgraded network is designed to handle about 40 million containers and 400 million tons of cargo annually.
- Alexandria port entered the world's top-100 ports, while Sokhna was recorded in Guinness as the deepest artificially dug port at 19 meters.
