The US House has approved a procedural rule clearing the way for a floor vote on legislation that would impose tariffs and sanctions on Russia, as senior Democrats voiced opposition.
- The House approved the procedural rule 214–211, with Democrats Jared Golden and Mary Gluesenkamp Perez backing Republicans.
- The bill by the late Senator Lindsey Graham would impose 100% tariffs on the five largest buyers of Russian energy and 500% on all Russian imports.
- Representatives Gregory Meeks, Don Beyer and Richard Neal said the bill would expand presidential tariff powers without mandating sanctions on Russia, raising prices and undermining support for Ukraine.
- Neal said opposition was not about denying Trump a victory but concerned the "abusive nature" of his tariff use.
