Syria Arrests Colonel Accused of Overseeing Sarin Gas Bomb Manufacturing

Syria's Interior Ministry said Wednesday it arrested a former colonel responsible for manufacturing sarin gas bombs under the deposed regime.

• The Interior Ministry announced the arrest of Colonel Ahmad Habib Ali, a chemical weapons specialist and former head of sarin gas warehouses.
• The ministry said Ali served as head of the Center for Scientific Studies and Research and was responsible for chemical manufacturing in Unit 417.
• According to initial investigations, Ali supervised the manufacture of about 20 sarin gas bombs, each weighing 250 kg, used in attacks on Syrian towns in 2013 and 2017.
• The ministry stated that investigations are ongoing to document all crimes attributed to Ali, pending his referral to the judiciary.
