Survey reveals parents sexually abused by their children, experts say

A survey and research have found that a notable proportion of parents seeking help for child-to-parent abuse report sexual harm, yet experts say the issue remains taboo.

• A survey by Pegs, a support organization, found that 17% of 188 parents who sought help reported sexual harm from their child.
• Amanda Holt, a criminology professor, analyzed data from 2,000 parents and found 13% had experienced harmful sexual behavior, with 96% being mothers.
• Michelle John, director of Pegs, said the organization is seeing more parents reporting sexual assaults, including rape and attempted rape.
• Lucy, a mother whose son was convicted of assaulting her, said she felt isolated and found no support after reporting the abuse.
