Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly detailed the state's social protection programs while addressing the Egypt 2026 Forum session on markets and social safety nets.
- Madbouly said some 4.7 million families currently benefit from the Takaful and Karama program, with 8.2 million families served since its launch.
- He said the program provides support for up to three years, with an evaluation of each family's ability to exit dependency.
- Madbouly stated about 60% of Egyptian families receive food subsidy support, with allocations rising from 32.8 billion to 178 billion Egyptian pounds.
- He said President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will launch a major housing program covering rental and social housing over the coming four years.
- Madbouly said health and education spending rose 30% and 20% respectively from the previous year.
- He said rolling out universal health insurance nationwide would require hundreds of billions of pounds, hoping service spending rises 100% annually.
- Madbouly said food and bread subsidy allocations will rise annually to keep pace with inflation, settling debate over subsidy cuts.
