New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a statewide measles disaster emergency on Monday, the first by a US state since cases surged in 2025.
- The emergency, in effect through November 4, expands the pool of health professionals permitted to administer MMR vaccines.
- New York has recorded 108 measles cases this year, including 92 in rural counties since July 15.
- Hochul said no one should get seriously ill or die from a vaccine-preventable disease.
- Pennsylvania officials announced the state surpassed 1,000 cases, its largest outbreak in three decades.
