The FBI arrested and charged an 18-year-old man with planning a mass casualty shooting at the Mall of America, the largest shopping center in North America.
- The FBI announced Wednesday it arrested Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, 18, on charges of planning a mass casualty attack in support of ISIS at the mall in Bloomington, Minnesota.
- Mohamud paid $600 to an undercover FBI agent posing as an ISIS member for an AK-47 rifle and 200 rounds of ammunition, the federal complaint said.
- The complaint said Mohamud texted the agent his intent to kill non-Muslims in the attack.
- US Attorney Daniel Rosen said Mohamud had been under investigation for nearly two years while exchanging messages with an FBI informant.
- Court documents show Mohamud expressed intent to emulate the Pulse nightclub shooting and to attack a Hmong arts celebration on October 24, 2026.
- FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect obtained a weapon hoping to carry out a mass casualty attack.
