US sanctions over 1,500 Iran-linked targets as Treasury weighs crypto seizure

Washington has sanctioned more than 1,500 Iran-linked individuals and entities and is weighing a $1 billion cryptocurrency seizure as it moves to isolate Iran economically.

• Deputy Treasury Secretary Erin Brown said the United States has sanctioned more than 1,500 individuals and entities in Iran since launching the "Economic Pariah" campaign.
• Brown said Washington has blocked all financial transfers to Tehran and will not allow any channel, including cryptocurrencies, to reach Iran.
• Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States is weighing the seizure of up to $1 billion in cryptocurrency assets this week.
• The US Treasury on Thursday imposed sanctions on individuals, networks, and 17 ships involved in transporting Iranian crude oil.
