Utah Bans Stephen King's Novella Collection from Public Schools

A collection of Stephen King novellas has been banned from all Utah public schools after multiple school districts removed it under state code on sensitive material.
- The Utah State Board of Education issued a statewide ban on July 6 after the Davis, Jordan, Tooele and Washington school districts removed the book.
- Utah law requires a statewide ban when at least three school districts determine a book contains "objective sensitive material" as defined under state code.
- The state board's banned list now includes 35 titles, including "Different Seasons" and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower."
- The ACLU of Utah filed a lawsuit in January 2026 on behalf of authors' estates, arguing the bans violate the First and Fourteenth Amendments.
