(opens the publisher’s site)Egypt's Cabinet Media Center has published infographics detailing Suez Canal traffic growth and dredging work across its southern sector.
- UNCTAD data cited in the infographics shows the Suez Canal carries 10% of global trade and 22% of container traffic.
- Transit numbers rose 7.7% in Q2 2026 to 3,580 ships, with net tonnages up 14.7% to 163.9 million tons versus Q1 2026.
- The channel was widened 40 meters eastward, the draft deepened from 66 to 72 feet, and a 10-kilometer bypass built in the Small Bitter Lakes, extending dual-navigation length to 82 kilometers.
- The media center said work began on 80-ton export tugboats at Port Said and six 90-ton "Azm" tugboats completed trials.
