The Pentagon has announced the first US military execution in more than 60 years, ordering death by firing squad for Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan.
- President Donald Trump approved death by US Army firing squad for Nidal Hasan, convicted of killing 13 soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009.
- Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced Monday that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recommended the execution.
- Parnell said the Secretary of the Army will set the time and place, adding: "Judgement day for Hasan has finally come."
- A military jury sentenced Hasan to death in 2013 after his conviction on 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder.
- A precedent may keep Hasan alive: Ronald Gray, approved for execution by George W. Bush in 2008, remains alive after years of federal court appeals.
