Jackdaw gas field owner warns of UK winter fuel shortage risk as regulator reviews approval

The operator of the North Sea Jackdaw gas field has said approval is critical to avoid domestic supply shortages this winter, as the regulator considers revised applications after a court ruling.

• Adura CEO Neil McCulloch said the field could meet 6% of UK gas from 1 October and warned the UK has only about eight days of gas storage.
• The UK Court of Session ruled in January 2025 that Jackdaw and Rosebank approvals were unlawful for failing to account for climate impacts.
• The Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning is reviewing revised environmental impact assessments for both fields.
• Adura submitted an assessment stating Jackdaw would account for less than 0.02% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions.
