Commercial vessels are avoiding US-supervised transit lanes through the Strait of Hormuz after Iranian attacks raised safety concerns among shipping companies.
- Shipping companies have avoided a US military-supervised transit system through the Strait of Hormuz following a series of Iranian attacks on vessels, according to seven security and maritime shipping sources.
- Iranian forces have mined the Strait's international shipping corridor since the war began on February 28, forcing ships to use temporary routes near the Iranian or Omani coasts.
- One source said his company chose not to sail through the strait due to crew safety concerns and the deteriorating security situation, adding that the US has no control over the situation.
