Matthäus disputes Schweinsteiger's criticism, backs Klopp to revive Germany

Lothar Matthäus has pushed back against Bastian Schweinsteiger's assessment of the German national team, saying Jürgen Klopp can restore its winning mentality.

• Germany drew 1-1 with the Netherlands and lost 1-0 to Greece, leaving coach Jürgen Klopp winless in his first two UEFA Nations League matches.
• Matthäus said the squad "is not at an average level," rejecting Schweinsteiger's claim that the team "is no longer among the big teams."
• Matthäus said Klopp, who won three league titles and a Champions League at Dortmund and Liverpool, can instill the necessary mentality.
• Matthäus praised Inter Milan defender Yann Bisseck, citing former teammate Giuseppe Bergomi's assessment that he is a world-class player.
