Zamalek open League Cup campaign with ZED clash tonight

Zamalek open their League Cup campaign against ZED in the tournament's first group-stage match Wednesday evening at Arab Contractors Stadium.

• The match kicks off at 8pm Cairo time as part of the group stage's opening round.
• Ibrahim Salah, acting head coach, will field a lineup of young and backup players in the absence of the main squad.
• The sides have met five times previously, with two wins each, one draw, and five goals apiece.
• ZED won their most recent League Cup meeting against Zamalek 1-0 in January 2026.
• Mo'tamed Gamal, the head coach, announced the starting lineup, fielding a youthful side to rest key players ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Al Ahly.
• Zamalek lost 3-0 to ZED in their League Cup opener, with Marwan Hegig scoring in the 40th minute and Ahmed Atef adding two more.
• Assistant coach Ibrahim Salah was sent off, with the suspension applying only within the League Cup, sparing him from the Premier League derby.
• ZED head coach Mohamed Shawky said his goal was to prepare players, adding that talk of winning the cup is premature.
