The International Atomic Energy Agency has reported that North Korea constructed a facility capable of producing weapons-grade uranium at its Yongbyon complex, citing satellite imagery and open-source analysis.
- The two-storey building at the Yongbyon complex can house up to 28 centrifuge cascades used to enrich uranium, according to the agency's report.
- IAEA director general Rafael Grossi said the programme's continuation constitutes "clear violations of relevant UN security council resolutions."
- The agency reported that operations had begun at an additional enrichment facility in Kangson in January, with an annex constructed there in 2024.
- Kim Jong Un, who visited the site in June, claimed the country's capacity to produce weapons-grade nuclear material had more than doubled over five years.
