Rare 5.5 kg neck tumor removal surgery in Sudan draws widespread attention

A Sudanese medical team successfully removed a 5.5-kilogram thyroid tumor from a patient's neck in a surgery lasting more than five hours.

• A Sudanese medical team at Atqiya Hospital in Wad Madani removed a 5.5 kg thyroid tumor measuring 75 cm long and 25 cm wide, which had severely compressed the patient's trachea and esophagus.
• Hospital director Dr. al-Sir al-Tayeb said delayed treatment was due to poor health awareness and the exceptional conditions caused by the war.
• The patient expressed gratitude to the medical team, saying the doctors had exerted great effort and that he now feels significant improvement.
• The surgery, led by consultant general and laparoscopic surgeon Dr. Majd al-Din Ahmed Ali, ended without complications and the patient left the operating room in stable condition.
