The Pentagon will livestream the firing-squad execution of Nidal Hasan, convicted of killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009.
- The Pentagon announced on Monday that Hasan would die by firing squad, with Hegseth recommending the sentence and President Donald Trump approving it.
- Army Acting Secretary Adam Telle set the execution for December 3 at 1pm at Fort Hood, the first US military execution in more than 60 years.
- Hegseth said the execution will be public and livestreamed so people understand there are consequences for such actions.
- Asked whether Hasan had made a final request or contacted Trump, Hegseth said "Don't care. We'll see him on December 3."
- The Supreme Court rejected Hasan's final petition in spring 2025, ending his automatic appeal and clearing the way for the execution.
- Hegseth said the execution time was set to roughly coincide with when the shooting began.
- Internal documents show officials had been preparing for lethal injection before the firing-squad method was chosen.
- Fort Hood survivor Alonzo Lunsford told the BBC he supports Hasan's firing-squad execution but questioned the livestream's effect on younger viewers.
