Two Indian-born women adopted by separate Dutch families who became friends as teenagers have learned through DNA testing that they are full biological sisters.
- Meena Geltink and Minal Teesen, born in the early 1980s, were adopted as infants from different Mumbai orphanages and first met at an adoption agency event.
- A DNA test taken by Teesen in April produced a 100 percent match that she shared with Geltink via Facebook on 20 May, confirming the pair share the same biological parents.
- The two met in August for the first time since the discovery, in an encounter marked by tears, hugs and laughter.
- Teesen said: "We were friends before we knew we were sisters. We were sisters all along, but we didn't know."
