US authorities have flown a diplomat accused of possessing indecent images of children out of the UK without informing British police.
- US officials raided the diplomat's London flat in August, then flew him to an American airbase and out of the country without warning the Met police or making a formal extradition request.
- Shadow justice secretary Nick Timothy wrote to Justice Secretary Alex Norris that the US actions may amount to a "cover-up" and the diplomat should face trial in an English court.
- The US embassy said it informed UK law enforcement and reassigned the individual to the United States in connection with an ongoing investigation.
- The case echoes that of US pilot Jacob Wulfson, jailed six months by court martial after strangling a woman in Cambridge, and diplomat Anne Sacoolas, who left Britain over Harry Dunn's death.
- Harry Dunn's mother criticised the removal of the US embassy staffer accused of possessing indecent images, saying the case raised concerns over its handling.
