Man arrested over death of Mississippi woman found hanging from a tree

Jackson police have arrested a man in the death of Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old Black woman found hanged from a tree in August.

• Police arrested Jacques Ratliff on Friday after the state medical examiner ruled Fortune's death a homicide.
• Chief RaShall Brackney-Wheelock said more arrests are likely and that investigators had interviewed 15 people.
• Fortune's mother Christy Spivey said police did not share a motive and that she hoped police "got the right person."
• More than 50 members of Congress sent a letter to the FBI and the Justice Department calling for an independent investigation into suspicious deaths of Black Americans.
