The New York City Council is expected to pass legislation Thursday banning Central Park horse-drawn carriage rides by June 2028.
- The legislation, named Romanch's Law, requires Mayor Zohran Mamdani's office to develop a workforce transition plan by next April with possible compensation.
- The Transport Workers Union, which represents the drivers, vowed to file a legal challenge the minute the bill passes.
- The ban follows the June death of 18-year-old tourist Romanch Mahajan, who fell from a carriage after its horse bolted.
