(opens the publisher’s site)Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli won the United States Grand Prix in Austin but must wait until next weekend's Mexico City race to seal his first Formula 1 world title.
- Antonelli won the US Grand Prix, finishing 16 seconds clear of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
- The 20-year-old leads Mercedes teammate George Russell by 123 points with four races of the season remaining.
- Antonelli can clinch the title in Mexico City if he does not lose more than 23 points to Russell and 24 to Lewis Hamilton.
- "It was the result we needed," Antonelli said, praising the team's one-stop strategy.
- Antonelli's ninth win of the season extended his championship lead over Lewis Hamilton to 124 points.
- He will secure the title by finishing ninth or better in Mexico City next weekend.
- Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, hailed the victory as 'the race of a champion who isn't a champion yet,' citing Antonelli's control on the medium tyre.
