China narrows AI gap with US to narrowest on record, Bloomberg Intelligence finds

A Bloomberg Intelligence report finds Chinese AI models now trail US rivals by just 3% on benchmarks, the narrowest margin recorded.
- Bloomberg Intelligence reported the US–China AI gap narrowed to 3% on benchmarks after DeepSeek launched V4.1 Flash in September, from 15% at year start.
- The report said DeepSeek V4.1 Flash ranked sixth globally on LiveBench, scoring 81.1 points versus 83.4 for Anthropic's leading models.
- Chief analyst Robert Lea said Chinese firms could gain a larger AI market share in coming years but forecast the sector would stay unprofitable until 2030.
