Parents to face charges after toddler takes loaded pistol to Michigan daycare

The parents of a toddler who carried a loaded pistol in his backpack to a Detroit-area daycare will face charges, police said Wednesday.

• Police in Canton Township said the parents will make an initial court appearance Thursday; no one was injured in Monday's incident.
• The child pulled the gun from his backpack at Children's World Early Learning Center, where staff removed it from him.
• Police Chief Joseph Bialy said one parent is a Detroit-area police officer, and the gun was not described as a work firearm.
• The daycare has tightened safety procedures, requiring inspections of children's bags upon arrival.
