UEFA has warned that English clubs' record transfer outlay is creating a fragile financial model, citing a €4.6bn summer spend.
- UEFA's report said Premier League clubs spent an estimated €4.6bn this summer, more than the next eight largest European countries combined.
- The report found inter-English transfer fees rose 44% to €1.55bn and included 29 of Europe's 35 transfer deals above €50m.
- UEFA's executive director of finance, Andrea Traverso, said English clubs are increasingly dependent on continued transfer fee inflation, creating a fragile financial model.
- Traverso said any slowdown in buyer demand or correction in transfer values could expose pressures on club profitability.
