Ofcom has launched a probe into whether Pornhub's new age-verification process, relying on Apple's checks, effectively prevents under-18s from accessing the site.
- Ofcom announced an investigation into Pornhub owner Aylo over whether its age assurance is highly effective as required by the Online Safety Act.
- In May, Pornhub said UK users who confirmed they were 18 or over through Apple's age-verification process would regain access to the site.
- Ofcom said it was concerned Aylo may not have conducted sufficient due diligence and testing before implementing its new age assurance.
- George Lusty, Ofcom's enforcement director, said tech firms must ensure age checks are highly effective before introducing them.
