Trump has repeated his pledge to mail $5,000 checks to every American adult if Republicans retain control of Congress.
- Trump renewed the pledge at a campaign rally in Mobile, Alabama.
- Trump said a Democratic victory would bring an economic depression like 1929, while a Republican win would put $5,000 in every voter's pocket.
- Few Republican lawmakers back the proposal, with many raising concerns about costs to federal coffers and the impact on inflation.
- The plan, first floated as "Trump dividends" at a September Republican conference, would cost an estimated $1.22 trillion for about 245 million American adults.
