Egypt's Financial Regulatory Authority has issued a standard contract model for short selling, bringing the mechanism closer to its official launch.
- Head of the Financial Regulatory Authority Islam Azam issued decision No. 3350 of 2026 adopting the standard model contract for short-selling agreements.
- The model sets margin-requirement ratios, commission and cost disclosure, and procedures for closing open positions under the framework of board decision No. 155 of 2026.
- Azam said the launch is being finalized in parallel with the central lending system operated by Egypt for Central Clearing, including live tests.
- Azam stressed brokerages must comply with anti-money-laundering Law No. 80 of 2002 and protect client data confidentiality.
