The family of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has filed a wrongful death notice accusing Utah Valley University of security failures that led to his shooting death on 10 September 2025.
- Kirk was shot and killed by a rooftop sniper while speaking to a crowd of about 3,000 people in an outdoor courtyard at Utah Valley University on 10 September 2025.
- The family filed the notice on 9 September, a required step before a lawsuit, naming the university, then-president Astrid Tuminez, police chief Jeffrey Long, and the state of Utah.
- Family attorney D Loren Washburn wrote the risk of a rooftop shooter "should have been especially top-of-mind" after the July 2024 rooftop attempt on Donald Trump, whom he called Kirk's close friend and political ally.
- A judge on 1 September ordered Tyler Robinson's aggravated murder case toward trial; he denies the charge, and prosecutors have sought the death penalty.
