Egypt's General Authority for Roads and Bridges has said the University Bridge on the Nile is structurally sound after an inspection found limited sidewalk erosion.
- The General Authority for Roads and Bridges issued a statement Friday responding to social media claims about damage to the University Bridge's sidewalks.
- Inspection found erosion in small parts of a sidewalk's surface concrete layer, caused by repeated water accumulation around drainage openings, the authority said.
- The authority said the opening does not affect bridge safety, and the structural condition of the sidewalks and all elements is generally good.
- The authority commissioned a specialized company for full maintenance of sidewalks, asphalt, joints and metal barriers under a Nile bridges plan following presidential directives.
