New White House press secretary Katie Zakaria faces scrutiny after records showed no license to practice law in any US state.
- The California State Bar said it has no record that Zakaria obtained a law license, and an independent platform found none in any US state.
- The Wall Street Journal reported Zakaria failed the California bar exam after graduating from Pepperdine law school in 2011.
- The watchdog group Campaign for Accountability filed a complaint with the California State Bar asking it to investigate whether Zakaria misled the public.
- White House communications director Steven Cheung defended Zakaria, who said she practiced international transactional law with the required qualifications.
- Zakaria has evaded questions about which state she passed the bar in, and registry searches in California, Texas and Washington, D.C. found no record.
