President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has proposed a 30-month military academy program to prepare candidates to lead Egypt by 2030.
- Sisi announced the plan Saturday at the military academy's first graduation ceremony, targeting PhD holders aged 40-50 from Egyptian or leading foreign universities.
- Sisi said the program would train groups of 200-500 people over more than 7,500 hours, with the armed forces covering costs of 3-5 million pounds per person annually.
- Sisi said a committee including the parliament speaker, intellectuals, and the education and justice ministers would draft a law regulating election of qualified candidates.
- Sisi said "Egypt is not barren — it can produce someone 100 times better than me," adding that not just anyone can lead the state.
