The Alexandria Library held a lecture on Monday examining how Alexander the Great selected the site for his namesake city.
- Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed Abdel Ghany said Egyptians received Alexander as a liberator from the Persians, not a conqueror.
- He explained that Alexander secured Egypt's economic resources and military rear before continuing his campaign against Persia.
- Abdel Ghany stated that after Alexander's death, Ptolemy I moved his body first to Memphis then to Alexandria, which replaced Memphis as Egypt's capital.
- The professor noted that the priest Manetho divided Egyptian history into 30 dynasties, a framework still used in historical studies worldwide.
