The House of Representatives has postponed the Criminal Procedures Law for one year after an emergency session, amid conflicting accounts of who sought the delay.
- MP Yasser El-Hodeiby said the government requested the one-year delay because digital, logistical and human infrastructure was not ready.
- El-Hodeiby confirmed the postponement covers the entire law, from its first to its last article.
- MP Diaa El-Din Dawoud said the decision carries constitutional and procedural defects, noting the minister of parliamentary affairs said the government did not request the delay.
- Dawoud said parliament was summoned on September 29, while the postponement bill was filed only on September 30.
- President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ratified the amendment, published in the Official Gazette, bringing the law into effect from Friday, October 2.
