DP World begins Tartous port modernisation with first crane delivery

DP World has initiated its 30-year concession to develop Syria’s Tartous port, delivering the first of three new mobile cranes under a $800 million investment programme.

• The first mobile crane arrived at Tartous port on 29 June, with two additional cranes expected in August 2026.
• Each crane has an annual capacity of approximately two million tonnes, with total crane operations projected to increase the port’s cargo-handling capacity by 40 percent.
• Fahad Al Banna, CEO of DP World Tartous, said the crane delivery marks the first phase of investments that will enhance the port’s capacity, efficiency, and reliability.
• The 30-year concession agreement between DP World and the Syrian government, signed in 2025, covers infrastructure upgrades, digitalisation, and training for local staff.
