Trump has announced new fuel economy standards that roll back the Biden-era electric vehicle mandate, saying they will lower car prices.
- In a Saturday Truth Social post, Trump said the new standards "terminate" the electric vehicle mandate adopted under Biden and will cut new car costs.
- Transportation Department estimates project the rules will lower new vehicle prices but increase fuel consumption and carbon emissions over decades.
- Trump's December 2025 proposal set the fleetwide average at roughly 34.5 mpg by 2031, more than 30 percent below Biden's 50.4 mpg target.
- Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said a further announcement on the standards would come Monday.
