Egypt's National Council for Childhood and Motherhood has intervened to protect a 15-year-old girl in Dakahlia married informally by her father to a 41-year-old man.
- The council announced its intervention after a report via the child hotline 16000 and referred the case to Dakahlia's child protection unit.
- The council said the confirmed report found the man is Egyptian, works in an Arab country, and is separated from his first wife, with four children.
- Council president Sahar Al-Sunbati said the marriage is a gross violation of the girl's rights to safety, childhood, education, and future.
- The council notified the Public Prosecution, whose Balqas branch opened an investigation and summoned the girl's family.
