US Central Command and Iran's Revolutionary Guard gave conflicting accounts of an attack on the oil tanker El Gaia as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz fell sharply.
- CENTCOM denied Iran's claim, saying El Gaia was hit by an Iranian missile last month and struck again by an Iranian drone off Oman's coast.
- Iran's Revolutionary Guard said El Gaia exploded after striking naval mines in a zone it declared prohibited, adding the strait is closed and under its control.
- Only four ships crossed the strait on Monday, down from ten the previous day, according to shipping data from Kepler.
- Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced it shot down a US MQ-1 drone west of the strait.
- Qatar's Foreign Ministry reiterated support for an agreement on the strait, calling the closure of maritime passages unacceptable and urging dialogue over military escalation.
- Oman's Maritime Security Centre said two sailors are missing after the tanker El Gaia caught fire in its engine room and was being towed to an Omani port.
- Qatar's communications director Ibrahim bin Sultan al-Hashemi warned of the consequences of closing the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb and reaffirmed Doha's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks.
