Egypt's Interior Ministry said it arrested six people linked to a Facebook page it described as spreading fabricated news for the Muslim Brotherhood.
- The Interior Ministry announced the arrest of six members of the media committee running the "Mat Sadaksh" (Don't Believe) Facebook page.
- The ministry said the unlicensed page is run from abroad by fugitive Muslim Brotherhood member Abdel Rahman Mansour.
- The ministry said operatives inside Egypt prepared fabricated news for Mansour to publish in exchange for funding from abroad.
- One of those detained is a member of the Journalists Syndicate, and the ministry said it informed the syndicate's head of the arrest.
- Metsad2esh denied the accusations, saying its archive contains hundreds of corrections of Brotherhood-affiliated reports and that its team is based in Egypt.
- Rights groups, the Journalists Syndicate, and international organizations demanded the journalists' immediate release, deeming the arrests unprecedented and part of a broader press-freedom crackdown.
