El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele said human remains delivered in Haiti do not belong to four Salvadoran soldiers who went missing this month.
- The four air technicians vanished on 18 October after armed groups ambushed their armoured vehicle in Croix-des-Bouquets, northeast of Port-au-Prince.
- Bukele said remains delivered by a non-governmental organisation to a Haitian airport included a child's corpse and a uniform from another country's army.
- He dispatched roughly 450 troops, saying the mission's sole purpose was to return the four men alive.
- A UN Security Council briefing on 19 October reported more than 1,000 killed in gang violence between July and September, with nearly 1.5 million people displaced.
