Irish broadcaster RTÉ has announced it will skip the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest for the second consecutive year, citing ongoing deaths in Gaza.
- RTÉ announced on Thursday that it will not participate in or broadcast the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, marking its second consecutive boycott.
- The broadcaster said Ireland's participation "cannot be justified given the appalling and ongoing loss of lives in Gaza."
- Dutch broadcaster Avrotros announced last month it will also skip the contest, saying Eurovision can no longer be considered neutral while a participating country is involved in armed conflict.
- The European Broadcasting Union changed its rules last month to bar broadcasters from hosting if their state is involved in an "armed conflict" or "sensitive geopolitical situation."
- RTÉ cited restrictions on international journalists' access to Gaza as an additional reason for its boycott.
