Novo Nordisk enters UAE market with oral version of obesity drug Wegovy

Novo Nordisk has entered the UAE market with its obesity drug Wegovy in oral pill form, CEO Maziar Mike Doustdar announced.

• Doustdar said the company developed an oral version to serve patients who avoid injections due to cultural, religious, or medical reasons, including needle phobia.
• Doustdar stated that Wegovy is the only GLP-1 drug with documented benefits for heart, kidney, and liver health, as well as stroke reduction.
• Doustdar acknowledged that current data on preserving muscle mass during weight loss is "not enough," but said a new molecule shows better preservation.
