The Ebola outbreak in eastern DR Congo has spread to seven provinces, where a trial of an experimental antiviral pill has enrolled more than 250 participants.
- A UN report said the outbreak remains active, with 8,067 confirmed cases and 3,901 deaths across 63 health areas in seven provinces.
- The trial, testing Gilead's obeldesivir pill as post-exposure prophylaxis, began in July in Ituri and aims to recruit nearly 1,000 participants.
- Authorities recorded at least 8,300 confirmed cases and 4,000 deaths since the outbreak was declared in mid-May.
- The World Health Organization said the outbreak continues to outpace tracking efforts and is set to exceed West Africa's 2014–2016 outbreak, which killed 11,000 people.
