German doctor sentenced to life for murdering 15 patients

A Berlin court has sentenced a 41-year-old palliative care doctor to life imprisonment for killing 15 patients between 2021 and 2024.

• The court found Johannes M. guilty of murdering 12 women and 3 men aged 25 to 94 during home visits.
• He confessed to killing severely ill patients, telling the court he believed he was sparing them "suffering and infirmity."
• The court ordered preventive detention after his prison sentence and imposed a lifetime ban on practicing medicine.
• Prosecutors are investigating 76 other cases in which the doctor is suspected of killing patients.
