US prosecutors have charged former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores with conspiring to commit torture.
- Prosecutors filed the new count in a Manhattan federal court on Thursday.
- The charge adds to the drug trafficking and weapons charges the couple already face, which they have denied.
- Maduro and Flores have been held at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center since US forces captured them in January.
- Their trial is scheduled for June 2027.
