(opens the publisher’s site)A Sudanese court has sentenced Rapid Support Forces leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and 15 others to death for atrocities committed in West Darfur.
- The court in Port Sudan convicted Dagalo, known as Hemedti, and 15 senior RSF members of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
- The trial centred on atrocities in el-Geneina, including the June 2023 killing of state governor Khamis Abbakar.
- Judge Mohamed Al-Amin ordered the confiscation of RSF assets and instructed authorities to seek Interpol Red Notices for the convicts.
- The Sudan Founding Alliance, which includes the RSF, told the BBC the trial was a "sham trial."
