Egypt's Ministry of Transport has revealed a new design for Cairo Metro Line 4 giving each direction its own tunnel for the first time.
- The National Authority for Tunnels is implementing Metro Line 4 with a separate tunnel for each direction, a design never before used in the Greater Cairo network.
- The ministry said the design differs from the previous three metro lines, which rely on a single tunnel carrying both tracks.
- Inside stations, the ministry said a central platform will separate the two directions, fitted with glass safety doors for passengers.
- The ministry said Line 4 will connect Sixth of October City and New Cairo, serving densely populated areas.
- The ministry said the line is expected to carry 1.5 million passengers on a daily basis.
- The first phase, from Hadayek el-Ashgar to Fustat, is scheduled to open in mid-2028.
