Search continues for three missing after Alcatraz boat capsizes

One person died and 16 were rescued after a boat capsized in San Francisco Bay during a memorial service near Alcatraz Island, authorities said.

• San Francisco fire chief Dean Crispen said the vessel began taking on water and turned over in the bay on Tuesday afternoon.
• Rescuers found a severely injured person aboard the boat and initiated CPR; the victim was declared deceased after being brought to shore.
• Lt Mariano Elias said the 50-foot pontoon pleasure boat named Volare was about 600 yards from Alcatraz when the emergency call came at 3:30 p.m.
• Search teams using thermal imaging and tide modeling continued searching for three missing people, including the open ocean west of the Golden Gate Bridge.
