Indian scientists produce 3D atlas of human brainstem at cellular resolution

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras have created a digital atlas of the brainstem that links MRI scans to individual neurons.

• The Anchor atlas combines more than 500 tissue sections from foetal, childhood, and adult brains, identifying over 200 cell clusters and nerve pathways.
• The atlas is freely available online and allows users to navigate from whole-brain MRI scans to individual nerve cells.
• The Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre plans to image over 100 whole human brains across different life stages and neurological disorders.
